A Different Kind of Resolution

As this new year begins, I feel very blessed. After working through some difficult challenges, the pendulum is swinging toward the realization of desires and fulfillment of persistent efforts for myself and my kids.

Quandaries are being resolved! The path forward is becoming clearer, and the steps are getting easier.

When we feel blessed with abundance and the universe conspires to help us feel extraordinarily supported, how do we show our gratitude?

I had been thinking and thinking about that. What is the best way to pay it forward? And then I saw this poem on Christmas day, and it all became clear:

“When the song of the angels is stilled,

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and the princes are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flock,

The work of Christmas begins:

To find the lost,

To heal the broken,

To feed the hungry,

To release the prisoner,

To rebuild the nations,

To bring peace among others,

To make music in the heart.”

—Howard Thurman

What if I make service my New Year’s Resolution?

Maybe I will literally pay it forward, donating what I can to charities that are doing the work of feeding the hungry and rebuilding the nations.

Maybe I will find a way to volunteer at least one day a month to help those who may feel lost or broken, to help them feel supported instead.

May I continue to feel inspired throughout the year, and may this be the year I actually keep my resolution! I think we could all use more peace, and music in our hearts.
